Description

Presented here is a 1992 Bentley Turbo R in Royal Blue with Parchment hide interior.
First registered in October 1992 and supplied by Evans Halshaw in Birmingham, the
car comes has been meticulously maintained over the last 34 years.

The Royal Blue paint has a very noticeable metallic fleck to it recently enhanced by a
complete paint correction and is a perfect and classy combination with the dark
blue-piped Parchment leather, blue dash top and blue carpets – the result is a car
that embodies the sophistication you would expect from an “old-money” Bentley like
this. The chrome-work presents well. The car sits on the rare 16 inch Bentley Turbo
wheels which were recently refurbished and are shod with a matching set of brand
new Uniroyal Tigerpaw tyres supplied by Flying Spares in 2025. The interior wood is in
very good condition and the headlining is clean. The pale leather has gently
patinated and is free from any significant stains or tears. The boot is clean and tidy
and includes the original unused toolbox.

When Rolls-Royce launched the Silver Spirit / Bentley Mulsanne in 1980, Bentley was
on its last legs. The Spirit massively outsold the Mulsanne which was effectively the
same car with a different grille and badges. No-one was really interested in Bentley.
The 1982 Mulsanne Turbo changed everything. Suddenly, the big saloon had a real
turn of speed, in a straight line at least, and Bentley had a distinct model at last. That
was the performance sorted out but the Mulsanne really needed better suspension
and that came in 1985 with the Turbo R, the R standing for roadholding. The
suspension changes, though seemingly subtle, transformed the soft and less than
well-controlled ride of the Mulsanne Turbo into that of a real performer. Initially, the
Turbo R carried over the carb-fed 6.75 litre V8 from the Turbo but for the 1987 model
year it gained Bosch MK-Motronic fuel injection. The Turbo R was eventually
discontinued in 1999 when it was replaced by the Arnage – it lives on today in the
form of Flying Spur.

The car comes with its original service book containing a record of 13 services from its early years,
being a mixture of franchise dealers and marque specialists Hanwells in London. In
addition, there is a bundle of invoices for maintenance and parts. The current owner
has provided a two-sheet breakdown of all work undertaken to the car during its
lifetime. Notably, it records a major service in May 2021 and 2022 with Rolls Royce and
Bentley specialist Daniel Riley. Since arriving in Ireland in 2023 this car has undergone
extensive work to bring it to the near-perfect condition it is in today, over €15k has
been spent including a full hydraulic system overhaul, new shock absorber and anti
roll bar, new steering box, new motors on window, wiper and electric front seats. All
works carried out by Ireland’s only Bentley specialist, Celtic Classic Motors in Wexford.
