Description

Finding an air-cooled 911 that has been properly sorted from top to bottom is rare, and this 1991 Porsche 911 (964) Carrera 2 Targa is one of the most thoroughly resolved examples available. Finished in Metallic Slate Grey over a tailored Cinnamon leather interior, the car has benefited from over €91,000 in documented investment across recent years. Having spent considerable time around and driving this car, I know it inside and out; it feels tight, rattle-free, and mechanically cohesive in a way that very few 30-year-old 911s manage to achieve.

On the road, the driving experience is direct and engaging. Originally delivered with a Tiptronic gearbox, the car was converted to an authentic Porsche G50 5-speed manual transmission paired with a 964 RS lightweight flywheel, heavy-duty clutch, and custom-mapped ECU chip. To ensure the drivetrain was operating perfectly, the transmission was removed and fully rebuilt  in 2025, fitting brand-new pinion and main shaft bearings to eliminate internal wear. At the same time, a brand-new KW Classic suspension kit was installed and dialed in with a full Manthey geometry setup. The result is crisp gear shifts, compliant damping, and sharp, predictable handling.

The mechanicals and body have been refreshed with equal care. The 3.6-litre flat-six engine was completely rebuilt from bare crankcases with six new barrels and pistons, reconditioned cylinder heads, new timing chains, tensioners, and head studs. Its 1,000-mile running-in service and head-stud re-torque are already completed. In 2025, further comprehensive maintenance included, installing new rear wheel bearings, new rear brake discs and handbrake shoes, fresh heater servomotors, a regassed air conditioning system, and a new idle control valve. In 2021, the shell was stripped to bare metal to eradicate corrosion around the screens and sills before paint, while the Targa roof frame was rebuilt with new webbing, foams, and factory seals to ensure it stays quiet and weatherproof.

Inside, the cabin features a complete retrim in Cinnamon leather with matching carpets, complemented by subtle Dynamat sound insulation in the transmission tunnel. The car is currently registered in Ireland on vintage plates (91-D-120309) with €56 annual road tax, and passed its NCT following inspection. It comes complete with its original stamped service book, historical MOT certificates, and invoices documenting every stage of its restoration and recent mechanical rebuild. It is completely turn-key and ready to be driven.
